This is a piece about my grandmother’s life and death and my experience processing losing her during my last semester in college, which ended with the solitude of pandemic. It is a chain of women's voices and memories across distance.

She is the woman (then girl) in Mr. Steve McCurry’s famous photograph, Afghan Girl, which graced the cover of National Geographic in the 1980s. I had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. McCurry himself to inform my writing about this piece.
